In the face of severe attacks on oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta region, a group, the Nigeria Infrastructure and Business Assets Security Group (NIBASS) is organising a two-day summit where stakeholders will brainstorm on the lingering issues in the region.
With the theme: “Infrastructure security: Responsibility in collective national interest,” the summit, according to the organisers, will allow other stakeholders in the value chain to collaborate on creating resilient systems to protect vital infrastructure in the Niger Delta from threats and other
vulnerabilities across the sectors. It will also enable stakeholders to gain insights into some of the complicated issues being confronted daily; and further encourage the building of productive partnerships and other opportunities.
The summit will also provide the platform to network, strategize and discuss critical issues impacting economic development and regeneration, job creation and business start-ups.
In addition, the summit will further facilitate direct access to Defence and security stakeholders and policy makers to develop and strengthen existing and new opportunities to protect the infrastructure and other vital assets.

Slated for November 21 -23, 2022, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the summit is targeted at creating a resilient and hardened systems capable of withstanding the diverse threats, as well as to foster robust engagements between relevant stakeholders to strengthen the vital infrastructure’s ability to withstand and respond to the threats and attacks effectively.
Speakers in the summit will include Prof ‘Niran Oluwaranti, a professor of Computer Science and Engineering; Prof Sylvester Odion- Akhaine, a professor of Comparative Politics and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Centre for Constitutionalism and Demilitarization; Dr. Sam Amadi, a policy strategist and law and governance expert, Capt Iheanacho Ebubeogu, and Prof. Prince Chinedu Mmom, a professor of Geography and Environmental Management among others.
According to the summit coordinator, Dr. Chiakor Alfred, the 2-Day Summit will also provide the platform to network, strategize and discuss critical issues impacting the regeneration of the numerous economic and other viable investment opportunities that shall create wealth, provide job opportunities and stimulate development in the Niger Delta Region.
“It is the expectation of the Summit to seek renewed commitment from the diverse Stakeholders and industry players to the challenges impacting the integrity of critical infrastructures and assets in the Region, especially the vandalisation and destruction of its complex ecosystem of separate yet interconnected infrastructures in the Oil and Gas; Telecommunications, Maritime, Financial, Maritime, Transportation, Power Sectors and other productive sectors of the local and national economy.”

Issues of security, destruction of lives and property know neither religion nor ethnicity. We are calling on the partnership and support of all Stakeholders, both in the Public and Private Sectors, with diverse political, religious and professional orientations to put aside all prejudices to help forge a common front to confront the monster that is threatening the integrity of our corporate existence as a people and as a nation”.
