Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and it’s Joint Venture (JV) partners, Shell, Total and ENI, on Wednesday signed a multi-million dollars deal to supply 70 million standard cubic feet (scf/d of gas to Dangote Fertiliser Company.
The signing which took place at the on-going Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES), was attended by President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari; Country Chair of Osagie Okunbor; and ENI representative.
Speaking at the event, Kyari said that the contract was perfected within a short period based on its importance to the production of fertiliser and agro-economic growth of Nigeria.
“As you are aware, Dangote fertiliser is one of the biggest producers of fertiliser and this deal, which is to offer 70 million standard cubic feet per day to Dangote fertiliser by the JV, will contribute to the surge of Fertiliser production in Nigeria. Of course, it will tremendously be positive to our agro-economy,” Kyari said.
Responding, Alhaji Aliko Dangote stated that though the volume of gas for the deal may relatively be considered marginal, it will go a long way in promoting more access to fertiliser for the country.
He said the new deal would also boost Nigeria’s foreign exchange with additional $1.8 billion, stressing that Nigeria is the second largest fertilizer producers in Africa besides Egypt.
