The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has restated its commitment to fast track full integration of the domestic gas market hubs into the Nigeria Gas Transportation Network Code to ensure optimal impact in the country’s domestic gas market.
The Director of Petroleum Resources, Engr. Sarki Auwalu stated this during the GO-LIVE ceremony to flag off the operations of the Nigeria Gas Transportation Network Code in Abuja by the Honourable Minister of State, Petroleum Resources Chief Timipre Sylva.
Engr. Sarki explained that leveraging on the potentials of Nigeria’s current gas reserve base of 203.16 trillion cubic feet, it was pertinent to use the instrumentality of the network code transparent open access to activate critical gas market performance enablers to ensure gas availability and deliverability.
He said that as part of the operationalisation process of the Nigeria Gas Transportation Network Code, DPR has established a Network Code Electronic Licencing and Administration System (NCELAS) portal on its website to process all licences required for operating gas transportation arrangements and administration of all regulatory roles required for the optimal performance of the network code.
He further stated that DPR had issued licences to network code transporters, shippers and agents and that migration of existing gas transportation agreements into the network code regime has commenced.
The Director assured that DPR will continue to engage all stakeholders to achieve the aspirations of government to deepen the Nigerian domestic gas market.
